Here Are Seven Methods For Saving Cash In A Recession

By Crystal Graham

With economic gloom emerging worldwide you need to ensure that you are saving cash at all times. Here are seven proven saving cash tips you can start now and save loads of money now.

The following are seven methods for saving cash that you can start immediately:

Saving Cash Secret 1 – Examine Your Finances

This is where it begins. You need to be aware of exactly what your income is and what your outgoings are every month. The biggest reason why folks spend too much cash and often cash they can't afford is because they are not in control of their money.

Saving Cash Secret 2 – Just Buy Necessities

Calculate monthly what things you have to pay for. This will likely include rent/mortgage payments, food, commuting expenses, utilities (phone, electric, gas), memberships, auto loans and so on. Once you have deducted this from your income you will have so much left over for you to spend on other things. It is here that you need to examine. Don't waste cash on things you don't really need.

Saving Cash Secret 3 – Don't Use Credit Cards

Another great way of saving cash is by using a cash or a debit card when spending. This is far more disciplined than using credit cards as there is often no perceived limit when using credit cards. If you use cash then this may make you think hard about spending money on things as it will drastically reduce the amount of money you immediately have available.

Saving Cash Secret 4 – Make A Record Of Your Spending

Saving cash is often a mindset problem – because you are unaware of your financial status you feel at liberty to spend relentlessly. By keeping records of everything (every little detail) of your expenditure you will be able to reflect daily on your spending habits. If it's possible to get a receipt for something then do so.

Saving Cash Secret 5 – Find Coupons And Use Them

Coupons are to be found in many publications. You probably receive mail outs from a range of grocery stores and other stores so try them out. You can also get coupons from the Internet. Google the stores that you use and see what special offers they have at the moment. You can even schedule your weekly menu based on these offers.

Saving Cash Secret 6 – Keep Your Visits to the Shops Short

You can keep your visit to the store brief by making a list of exactly what you need before you go to the shops. Research has revealed that shoppers who spend more time in shops are inclined to spend more cash than those that opt for the short stay. Similarly shoppers that visit the stores without a “list” will be much more susceptible to impulse buying as they are not organized.

Saving Cash Secret 7 – Turn Everything Off

Saving cash on your electricity bill is simple – just turn everything off that you are not using or you are no longer using. How many times have you left your TV set on “Standby” overnight? Don't do it – this will cost you a fortune over the time. Also if your heating and/or air conditioning is controlled by thermostat turn it down to a comfortable level. If you are out at work or somewhere else set the timer to turn it off and turn it back on again a few minutes before your planned return time home.

Saving cash is really all about discipline and conditioning your mind to not only keep tabs on your expenditure but also to check your purchasing habits and those of the rest of your family. It may seem difficult initially but once you get used to it it's pretty easy. A tip that will really help you is just to think to yourself “Do I really need this?” when you are thinking about spending money on an item that is not essential for you. Give it a try it works every time.
